These paintings were from the period John lived in Hunmanby, and are based on a farmhouse on the Yorkshire wolds that particularly caught his eye.
These images are amongst the most experimental surrealist paintings he produced. The peeling and fragmented wallpapers are the wallpapers from Elm Tree House where John and Marion lived at the time, an example of John taking imagery from everyday life and asking us to see it in a new way.
